Canadian Exergaming Research Centre
The researchers at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University are studying the effects of
exergaming on the acquisition of basic movement skills. Their laboratory is located in an elementary school
and will evaluate the impact of iDance, Wii Fit, XRBoard and Lightspace (wall) with third and fourth grade
students. In particular, how does exergaming influence the development of balance, coordination, agility,
reaction time and laterality. For further information view the research website at www.ucalgary.ca/exergaming

About the Exergame Study:

Starting on Monday, April 20, 2009, Walkabout Technologies is proud to announce that we will participate in a 10 week study of childhood obesity in the Peoria IL USA area. This is a collaborative study with OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Exergame Fitness USA, Peoria Park District, G.I.T.M. (Gifts in the Moment) llc, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) and is spearheaded by Peoria pediatrician, Dr. Amy Christison.

The objectives of the study will demonstrate that a weight loss program for children using "exergaming technology" can result in weight loss, improve self-image and change behaviors that will promote weight loss.Walkabout Technologies will participate in this important event by utilizing its wireless technology to monitor and report each child's activity level. The Intelliped, which is a wireless pedometer with an accelerometer, can calculate the activity steps of each child and report its findings automatically and electronically.

Research Dates:

The study will be conducted from April 20, 2009 - June 29th 2009
