What is Exergaming for?
The short term goal of exergaming is to engage children and adults in physical activity as a substitute for sedentary activities. The medium term goal of exergaming is to improve health and fitness of participants, increase self-esteem and physical ability towards the long term goal of increasing physical activity levels for long term healthy lifestyles - including VPA (voluntary physical activity) beyond exergaming alone - and ultimately to realize health and wellness benefits by this.
A summary of the above?
To create 'structured' engagement in physical activity; improve participants health, fitness and self-esteem, and ultimately realize the benefits of an enduring healthy lifestyle achieved by voluntary multidisciplined physical activities.
Beta-version:
- Main target audience of exergaming are people and kids who do not like sport, who would never go to a gym, a fitnessclub.
- It is not ment to be an alternative of existing fitnessclubs and gyms.
- Of course it should be combined with other things, e.g. cooking courses, other kind of sport.
- An instructor that takes care for right movements is very important!
- The aim of exergaming is to show people and kids that sport is great and good. And that they will do traditional sport in the future.
- When kids are playing games, it would be great, when they move while doing this.
- Exergaming is not an alternative for a good education. Parents should take more responsible and take care of the health from their children.

The comment with the "gateway to common sport" is missing ...

I dont think you can mention gateway effect untiil we know via research that it exists. I think you make a prudent point at the end about increasing PA levels beyond the use of exergames alone. I would take out additional phys exercise in the first sentence. The goal is simple to increase PA levels for long term healthy lifestyles - including VPA (voluntary PA) and health/wellness benefits as known from participating in PA. Great start Richard.

Perhaps we should keep the mission statement as succinct as possible and add the 'Codes of Practice' as an adjunct. We don't really want to 'define' Exergaming in the mission statement rather expound its worth and value. I don't mean to 'dumb it down' but rather get to the core of what Exergaming is trying to achieve, in a broader sense. Subjectively I feel we need to 'clearly' define Exergaming, which we are doing as well, before we can really nail the mission statement?
As a mission statement, albeit from a Commercial enterprise, a Pharmacutical company "Merck": "To preserve and improve human life."
Value system:
* Corporate social responsibility
* Unequivocal excellence in all aspects of the company
* Science-based innovation
* Honesty & integrity
* Profit, but profit from work that benefits humanity

I suppose my 'Evangelistic' enthusiasm for Exergaming may be determining my adjectives rather than a more pragmatic or academic bent, but what the hell, perhaps the mission statement should herald some simple optomism? Here's a poor attempt, but it gives an idea of an alternative direction for defining a purpose. I prepare to be flamed :)
"Exergaming is a fast evolving intervention which promises to fight the health and fitness issues endemic of the 21st century"
